Think about waking up to the sounds of hippos grunting and birds chirping, with only a canvas tent separating you from the vast expanse of the Okavango Delta. This was us on a recent Outlaw Safari adventure that took us to the heart of Botswana’s iconic wetland.
Our journey began with a scenic flight over the delta, a breathtaking expanse of waterways, islands, and lush vegetation. From the air, we could see the intricate network of channels and the diverse wildlife that call this unique ecosystem home.
Arriving in Botswana
Upon landing, we were greeted by our friendly and knowledgeable guides who would be our companions for the next few days. They introduced us to the delta’s unique features and shared their passion for conservation.
Our first stop was a traditional mokoro, a dugout canoe that is the perfect way to explore the delta’s waterways. As we glided through the calm waters, we were surrounded by a symphony of bird calls and the gentle lapping of the water. We spotted hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of waterbirds, including the iconic African fish eagle.
In the evenings, we settled into our unfenced tented camp, a luxurious yet rustic accommodation that provided the perfect blend of comfort and adventure. We enjoyed delicious meals cooked over an open fire, listened to the sounds of the night, and fell asleep under a blanket of stars.
One of the highlights of our trip was a game drive in the Moremi Game Reserve. It is a protected area within the Okavango Delta. We encountered a variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, buffaloes, and giraffes. We also had the opportunity to observe a pride of lions stalking their prey. One of the thrilling experiences that we’ll never forget.
Hanging with the Community
Another unforgettable experience was a cultural visit to a nearby village. We learned about the traditional way of life of the local people, including their customs, beliefs, and crafts. We also had the chance to interact with the villagers and gain a deeper understanding of their culture.
Our time in the Okavango Delta was filled with adventure, discovery, and unforgettable experiences. The delta’s unique beauty, diverse wildlife, and friendly locals made it a truly special place.
